Beit Rabban

SLO Architecture has designed a new 10,000+ square foot facility for Beit Rabban Day School, for K-5 in New York City. The school is located over three floors in a new multi-use facility on the Upper West Side. A translucent hanging ‘cloud’ structure in the main reception, on the pre-K  floor, brings light into the interior space, and offers an inviting, and warm atmosphere to the young students and general meeting area. Inside the pre-K classrooms, wood lofts, in the form of boat fragments, allow children to explore on their own or with a few friends. Children look through small openings in the wall back to the cloud reception space. Upstairs in the elementary school, the bubbly forms of the horizontal cloud are transformed into vertical services that invite students to engage more actively with the space. A gallery wall in the entry area offers students a chance to work  on interdisciplinary inter-grade projects. Transom windows from the classrooms provide light into the interior.
