Finding Tibbetts 2.0 is a mobile wetland, stopping through the Bronx andManhattan neighborhoods of Van Cortlandt, Kingsbridge, Marble Hill, and Inwood, during the summer and fall of 2018. A landscape built atop an 8-foot-by-16-foottrailer bed, Finding Tibbetts 2.0 unearths a vestige of the ecosystem of Tibbetts Brook that once wended through marshlands and mudflats into Spuyten Duyvil Creek and the Harlem River. The project— commissioned as part of the City as Living Laboratory’s Broadway: 1000 Steps, to bring communities along Broadway closer to their evolving landscape—reclaims interconnected greenspace by revealing the possibility to bringTibbetts Brook back out from sewer pipes, running under Broadway, to flow from Van Cortlandt Lake to the Harlem River along the Old Putnam Railroad right-ofway, as a new public greenway. Finding Tibbetts 2.0 embodies the coexisting artifice and nature of our cityscape, by building an immersive cross-sectional cut of the future restoration of the Tibbetts wetland As water permeates and gives form to each part of the landscape, Finding Tibbetts 2.0 amplifies the unrealized potential of a buried wetland, making Tibbetts visible across the neighborhood to tell the story, and reclaim the future.
